The Journal of Research in Social Sciences (JRSS), published by the Faculty of Social Sciences, National University of Modern Languages (NUML), adheres to a transparent, ethical, and internationally aligned financial framework to support its academic publishing activities.
In line with best practices recommended by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), particularly regarding transparency in funding and revenue disclosures the journal clearly outlines its revenue sources as follows:
1. Article Processing Contributions (APCs):
JRSS requires authors to make modest financial contributions to support the editorial, peer-review, and publication processes, in accordance with the NUML Research Journals Policy (2023). These contributions are structured in phases, submission, processing, and publication to ensure administrative efficiency and continuity of services.
The charges correspond to services rendered at each stage of manuscript handling. Therefore, once a manuscript has completed a specific stage, the associated charges for that stage are typically not refundable. Nevertheless, the journal remains mindful of fairness and may review exceptional cases in accordance with institutional policies.
2. Institutional Support:
JRSS benefits from substantial academic and administrative support provided by the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad. This institutional backing ensures the sustainability, quality, and credibility of the journal.
3. Print Subscriptions (Optional):
JRSS operates primarily under a full open-access model, ensuring that all published content is freely accessible online without any subscription or access fees. For readers and institutions who prefer physical copies, the journal offers optional print editions. A nominal fee is charged for these printed copies to cover printing and distribution costs only. This does not affect the open-access availability of the journal’s digital content.
4. Fee Waivers and Academic Considerations:
The journal may grant full or partial fee waivers to distinguished scholars, particularly international contributors or in special academic circumstances. Such waivers are merit based and aligned with institutional guidelines, and they do not influence editorial outcomes.
In accordance with the ethical standards set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), JRSS ensures that all revenue sources are transparently disclosed.
JRSS does not generate revenue from advertisements, commercial sponsorships, or any external entities that could compromise editorial independence. All financial resources are utilized solely to support the journal’s publication processes and to enhance its academic quality and outreach.
All editorial decisions are made independently and are based exclusively on scholarly merit, originality, and the outcomes of the double-blind peer-review process, ensuring full compliance with international ethical publishing standards.
